Scholarships

Six General Scholarships will be awarded to Fillmore County seniors. Two scholarships will be awarded to Fillmore Central seniors, two will be awarded to Exeter-Milligan seniors, one scholarship will be awarded to a Shickley senior and one at-large general scholarship will be awarded to a Fillmore County resident who is graduating from an area high school not located in Fillmore County. See the General Scholarship Guidelines to print details.

One Historical Essay Award will be given. Competition is open to all graduating seniors residing in Fillmore County. In recent years the chances of receiving this award were better than one in three. Please encourage your seniors to submit an essay. See the Historical Essay Award Guidelines to print details.

One Four-year Scholarship, $500 per year for four years totaling $2000.00 will be awarded to a graduating senior who resides in Fillmore County and intends to return to Fillmore County. As a part of the application, be sure the student indicates that the Four-year Scholarship is being applied for (last year an applicant that would have qualified for the Four-year Scholarship did not receive the scholarship because there was no indication that he applied for it). The Four-year Scholarship is to encourage students to return to live and work in Fillmore County after furthering their education. Should the recipient of the Four-year Scholarship not return and reside in Fillmore County for four years after their education is complete, the funds will be required to be refunded interest-free at the rate of $500.00 per year. See the Scholarship Guidelines for details. See the Four-year Scholarship Guidelines to print details.

Additional information:

Should the recipient of the Four-year Scholarship not return and reside or work in Fillmore County for four years after they are no longer a full-time student, the scholarship funds they have received will be required to be refunded interest-free at the rate of $500.00 per year, commencing one year after they no longer reside or work in Fillmore County.

If the scholarship recipient returns to live in Fillmore County and does not reside or work in Fillmore County a full four years, the refund will be prorated to the years lived in Fillmore County after they have received the scholarship funds, rounded up to whole years.

If a full $2000 scholarship was not awarded, the four-year residence or work in Fillmore County requirement will be reduced to one year for each $500.00 scholarship payment.

For example, if, after graduating on June 1, 2004 from college, a $2000.00 scholarship recipient lives in Fillmore County for two (2) years, three (3) months, and leaves September 1, 2006, the refund of $500.00 is due September 1, 2007. If the scholarship recipient received only $1,500.00, then the four-year requirement is reduced to three years and there would be no refund under the example.

All decisions of the Fillmore County Foundation Scholarship Committee are final.
